Labyrinth Escape reminds me of the games I made when I was 16-years-old and fooling around with the Unreal Engine.https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=jWh_Jw9HgUIThis game is an extremely lazy effort filled with what look like stock assets. The level design is made to deliberately kill the player multiple times under the guise of the game being difficult, when in reality it's simply there to pad out the experience. The gameplay includes eight levels of mazes that the developer slapped together where you navigate a few rooms and shoot weird rubber bullets randomly until you find the secret door to the next area. The game advertises destructible walls when in reality they are just rectangles that have physics enabled when you shoot them, or sometimes not because the physics will randomly stop working.Littered throughout these levels are bombs that look randomly placed in bunches and impede your progress. Avoiding the bombs is impossible in some areas as you will always manage to explode one no matter what. When your character dies you can just do the maze again but nothing respawns so all the bombs you exploded aren't there anymore. That isn't difficulty, that's just irritating and padding out a terrible experience. The developer has been responding to people on forums and locking threads that say negative things about the game. Their defence to the negativity seems to boil down to the game having a very small target audience, which in their mind is why people so far dislike it.That is incorrect, people dislike the game because it isn't good. Nothing in your game that you have designed is enjoyable to play. Fans of maze games will hate it, FPS players will hate it and puzzle game players will hate it. It's not because these people aren't your target audience, it's because you have no target audience along with your presentation via trailers and descriptions being terrible.Sometimes harsh words are needed in order for people to understand, but from the looks of it and every other game this developer has released, they either don't care or are blind towards any criticism.Overall, this game has nothing to offer anybody. It's poorly made and resembles something a high school student would create during their lunchbreak. If you found this review helpful, feel free to follow my curation page to see every game I cover. http:\/\/steamcommunity.com\/groups\/iampattyjack#curation. Ugly, MS paint style menus.Haphazard asset placement.Fairly boring, maze "solving" play.Shoot every wall till one falls down, then walk through.https:\/\/youtu.be\/btd3nT20Drk. worst game ever. I read a review which made me stop and contemplate. It was a simple one line text which stated..."Labyrinths NEVER make GOOD games"Is this true? I immediately started to think back to all the times I've played games containing mazes over my life time and sure enough I could not even think of one, which I was overly thankful for having played. What does this mean? Is it possible that making a 'Good' maze game is actually impossible? Are maze games simply the product of lazy game developers who are content to just pad shallow entertainment through aimless wandering? Why do we continue to buy these sorts of games if they are 'NEVER' any good?Don't get me wrong. I like mazes. Some mazes command my respect and awe. The George Lucas 1986 Labyrinth movie is one of my favourites. Maybe that's the problem. Not enough Muppets. Fill the 12 mazes in this game with singing Muppets that I can pummel to death with my rubber bullet totting machine gun and this could be the best game ever. Alas, on the contrary, there is nothing to shoot here other than walls in the hope that you will find the extension of a wall which is fake and easy to knock over. Continue doing this until you basically find the exit. There are obstacles to avoid, but since they are randomly placed this isn't particularly difficult, because most rooms will give you the space of a football field to avoid the obstacle. Also the obstacles don't really have alternating strategies needed to combat against them. Let me illustrate...There are bombs, these can be avoided by jumping over them. There are mines, these can be avoided by jumping over them. There is lava, this can be avoided by jumping over it.There is ice, this can be avoided by jumping over it.There are half blocks, these can be avoided by jumping over them.See a pattern developing here? The best thing about this game which made me chuckle and probably something a speed runner might be interested in is that if you simply shoot the top right corner of a false wall, you more often than not, can pivot it into becoming a ramp for you, this allows you to climb to the top of the labyrinth and just walk along the top of the walls. One day while roaming the city streets in my Armani suit, a taxi sped past me driving through a large puddle. Drenched head to toe in dirty water I chased after it hoping to get its details. Alas, I didn't catch sight of the trash can under my foot and went superman flying into a stoby pole. Now sitting down on the footsteps of an abandoned building, patting the blood from my forehead with some tumbleweed newspaper floating by, i was eventually approached by a beanbag sized lady from the Salvation Army. She drooped down to my level and in a kind voice of concern asked..."Are you alright my dear? Would you like a place to stay?"I mention this because. With the flood of negative reviews, with some trendy graphic assets now arrayed in tatters thanks to random haphazard placement and Tero Lunkka a Finland developer https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/tero.lunkka trying to bury the pain of having created this, with crumpled up other projects, sitting on the steps of steam store, like a beggar, I feel this is my perfect time to pay the kind and thoughtful deed shown to me forward.\u201cAre you alright my dear? Would you like a place to stay?"Full game below to settle curiosity...https:\/\/youtu.be\/8Zh8xSvkuQoIf you enjoyed reading this review please subscribe to my curator page. Thanks...http:\/\/store.steampowered.com\/curator\/6843548\/Tips for developer...1. Groovy music needed for every level.2. Time requirement for every level.3. Lock the levels so that they need to be unlocked giving the gamer a sense of progression.4. Gun's aim is off.5. Make the false walls consistent. Some needed to be shot 30 times for them to fall others only need to be shot once.6. Placed enemies, traps or bombs that require more than just jumping over them. 7. Proximity mines.8. Deadly lasers.9. Spikes. 10. Closing walls.11. Achievements & trading cards.12. Finish something properly before moving onto another project or your shoddy reputation will follow you.13. Story, notes, collectibles. Money for gun customisation.
